Who We Are

Founded in 2013, Huntington in Bloom is a non-profit, year-round initiative to beautify and improve the quality of life in Huntington, WV. We are a fund of the Foundation for the Tri-State.

Our Objectives

Huntington in Bloom plants flowers in a number of public spaces to help beautify the community. Residents and business owners are encouraged to participate in Huntington in Bloom’s efforts by using this year’s color scheme – hot pink, purple, yellow, and white.

Seasonal Decorations

Huntington in Bloom has other seasonal objectives including decorations for fall, winter holidays and Veterans Day.

Each year the City of Huntington”s Public Works Department and Huntington in Bloom provide holiday decorations for the city, including all fall and Christmas decor. This is made possible by donations from the City of Huntington and the Huntington Municipal Development Authority.

Huntington in Bloom is also proud of honoring our veterans with patriotic banners along the streets of downtown Huntington, showcasing veterans from the Huntington area, past and present.

2021
Purchased Second Watering Truck

The City of Huntington purchased a second water truck on behalf of Huntington in Bloom.

Veteran Banner Program Began

Started the Veteran Banner program in the Central Business District.

2020
Purchased Watering Truck

The City of Huntington purchased a water truck on behalf of Huntington in Bloom.

2019
100 New Banners for Downtown Huntington

Special thanks to the Marshall University Visual Arts Center for their help on the design.

Doggie Doo Stations

These have been installed on the end caps of Ninth Street Plaza and Fourth Avenue.

Trees and Tree Pits

HIB and Kotalic Landscaping planted over 30 trees in the downtown and Fifth Avenue area. In addition, nearly 100 trees have been pruned and the tree pits have been cleaned and mulched.

Downtown Christmas Decorations

A new marquee sign was placed on the traffic island located on Third Avenue and Thirteenth Street.

2017
Flower Boxes are Installed

Six more flower boxes were installed on the parking garage.

2016
Flower Boxes are Installed

Eight flower boxes were installed on the Municipal Parking Garage along 8th Street. Special thanks to Lisa McComas for heading up this project. The metal brackets that the wooden boxes sit in were fabricated by Huntington Steel, the boxes themselves were made by Jason White and fundraising efforts for the boxes were aided by several local garden clubs as well as businesses.

2013
Huntington in Bloom Founding

Huntington participated in the "America in Bloom" competition for the first time. In doing so, volunteers founded the local organization Huntington in Bloom to achieve the following goals

  • Improve the quality of life in Huntington
  • Promote community involvement and unity
  • Identify opportunities for improvement
  • Preserve Huntington's rich heritage by embracing its culture

Our city was awarded four out of five blooms in the “America in Bloom” competition. Currently, Huntington is not participating in the competition but instead will work together through Huntington in Bloom to focus on making improvements that will further beautify our city.
